Design Research Dissertation

INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1 - DRARF

On the first day of this module, we were briefed for the upcoming tasks that we'll complete this semester's Design Research Dissertation which is the continuation of last semester's Design research Methodology

Our first Task will be based on last semester's Literature review, this semester we're going to create research dissertation.

First things first, we were told to make a literature Matrix to dig deeper into our 5 articles from last semester's module.

a) Literature Matrix

Literature Review Matrix

By doing Literature Review, it'll be easier for us to understand the overall concept of our topic. So after we're done with our Literature Review, we then know our Research Title and topic. Moving on we continue doing Draft Dissertation.

b) Draft Dissertation

After I went through some revisions and updates, here are the final result of my Draft Dissertation

PROJECT 2 - VISUAL DESIGN

Our next Project requires some Visual design and illustrative images alongside with typographically appealing texts. After done with the draft dissertation, we are assigned to make it into an e-book with designs suitable according to our topics.

After doing some research and visual references, these are some of my likings and my references.

The idea is to make it VR/Games themed e-book with galaxy color palette.

REFLECTION

As the semester comes to an end, I'm reflecting on my journey in delving into design research for my dissertation. It has been a challenging but rewarding experience, pushing me to explore design thinking and research methodologies deeply.

A major accomplishment was developing visual design elements, like infographics and user interfaces, to effectively convey my research. This not only improved my graphic design skills but also highlighted the importance of aesthetics in communicating complex ideas.

Drafting the dissertation was tough but fulfilling, requiring attention to detail in presenting research, analysis, and insights. Crafting each section precisely polished my academic writing skills and helped me express my thoughts cohesively.

Publishing a journal article added rigor, challenging me to condense the essence of the dissertation into a concise and impactful format. The strict guidelines and peer-review process emphasized clarity, originality, and contribution to existing knowledge, deepening my appreciation for academic publishing and global scholarly conversations.

Collaboration played a vital role throughout. Discussions with mentors, peers, and experts enriched my perspective and fueled the iterative design research process. Feedback on visual design, dissertation drafts, and journal submissions was crucial in refining and elevating my work.

Looking back, this semester equipped me with practical design research skills and fostered resilience and adaptability. Navigating complexities in design thinking broadened my intellectual horizons and enhanced my ability to approach challenges with creativity and analytical thinking.

As I conclude this semester-long exploration, I carry forward confidence, refined skills, and a profound appreciation for the iterative and collaborative nature of research. The transformative journey has shaped not just my academic capabilities but also instilled a lifelong commitment to approaching problems with curiosity and innovation.
