TOPIC : The impact of Social Media to Society.

Group members :
- Amira
- Adrianna (Leader)
- Jennifer
- Alan

Expected outcomes :
1. An animated infographic informing the audience about "the impact of social media to society" (min 1.5 max 3 min video) \
2. Must include some form of data/statistics.
3. Must use the questioning technique and provide answers.

For Final Project, we were divided into groups of 4, we're given topic to break down the information into parts. Our group decided to go with the impact of social media to society. Questions like "what, why, where, when, who, and how must be inserted into the building of our narrative before transferring the information onto our storyboard.

Relevant visuals are crucial to create associations of information to the infographics. Refer to the chare to decide how to visualize.

RESEARCH

My Role
: Illustrator

After deciding our roles and Work Timeline, we move on to research. What is social media??
Social media is an online platform and applications that allow users to create, share, and
interact with content in virtual communities and networks. These platforms facilitate
communication, information sharing, and collaboration among users regardless of geographical
boundaries.

Key Characteristics of social media :
1. User-generated content: Social media platforms allow users to create and share various
types of content such as text, images, videos, and links.
2. Social networking: Users can connect with friends, family, colleagues, and other users
through profiles, friend requests, following, and messaging features.
3. Interactivity: Social media platforms enable users to engage with content by liking,
commenting, sharing, and reposting. This fosters conversations and interactions among
users.
4. Multimedia content: Social media platforms support various forms of multimedia content,
including photos, videos, live streams, stories, and audio recordings.
5. Real-time updates: Users can receive instant updates and notifications about new
content, messages, and activities from their connections.
6. Privacy settings: Most social media platforms offer privacy settings that allow users to
control who can view their content and interact with them.

Examples of popular social media platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn,
Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Reddit. Each platform serves different purposes and
caters to specific demographics and interests, but they all share the fundamental goal of
facilitating social interaction and content sharing online.

The impact of social media on society is multifaceted and has both positive and negative
aspects. Here are some key points regarding its impact:

1. Communication and Connectivity: Social media has revolutionized communication,
allowing people to connect with friends, family, and acquaintances across the globe
instantly. It has facilitated the spread of information and ideas, breaking down
geographical barriers and enabling collaboration on a global scale.
2.  Information Sharing and Awareness: Social media platforms serve as sources of
news and information, empowering users to stay informed about current events, trends,
and developments. However, the spread of misinformation and fake news is a significant
concern, as it can lead to misunderstandings, polarization, and societal unrest.
3.  Community Building: Social media fosters the formation of online communities based
on shared interests, hobbies, beliefs, and identities. These communities provide support,
solidarity, and a sense of belonging for individuals who may feel marginalized or isolated
in offline settings.
4. Influence on Behavior and Attitudes: Social media can shape people's opinions,
attitudes, and behaviors through exposure to curated content, peer influence, and social
norms prevalent on these platforms. It can influence consumer preferences, political
beliefs, lifestyle choices, and even mental health outcomes.
5. Impact on Mental Health: Excessive use of social media has been linked to various
mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and social
comparison. The constant pressure to present an idealized version of oneself online,
along with cyberbullying and harassment, contributes to negative psychological effects.
6. Privacy and Security Concerns: Social media platforms collect vast amounts of user
data, raising concerns about privacy, surveillance, and data breaches. Unauthorized
access to personal information, identity theft, and online scams are significant risks
associated with the use of social media.
7. Digital Literacy and Skills: The prevalence of social media necessitates digital literacy
skills to navigate effectively and critically evaluate online content. Educating users about
digital citizenship, online safety, and media literacy is crucial for mitigating the negative
effects of social media.
Social media has profoundly transformed society, influencing how people communicate, interact, and perceive the world. While it offers numerous benefits in terms of connectivity, information
sharing, and community building, it also presents challenges related to misinformation, privacy,
mental health, and digital literacy. Balancing the positive and negative impacts of social media
requires ongoing efforts from individuals, policymakers, and technology companies to promote
responsible usage and mitigate potential harms.

MOODBOARD & CHARACTER SKETCH

After we're done with the research and script, we move on to making mood boards deciding how we want out animated infographic to look like visually.

Fig. 2 Mood board

So, in the end we came up with the idea to make a dark environment with a contrast from the characters. As for the characters we wanted to make it cute neon like concept

Fig, 3 Character ideation sketch

These are the sketches that i've made before deciding together with amira and adrianna which character to use.

Fig. 4 Character color exploration

And... Here's the final character we're going to use. It has the perfect amount of simplicity, cute, neon-ish and contrast that we're aiming for.

STORYBOARD

Moving on, after we decided our character and its color scheme, i then proceed to make storyboard based on the script that adrianna made. Mira's part was beginning till the middle and my part is where Mira left of till the end.

Fig. 5 First Storyboard Draft.

Here's the first storyboard draft that i did on procreate, at that point, I couldn't clearly depict the visuals yet since i'm supposed to do part of the script that Alan write but he hasn't complete it yet. Therefore i only could do plenty.

Fig. 6 Storyboard Second draft

Fig. 7 Storyboard Third draft

Fig, 6 and 7 are the second attempt of my storyboard sketch, I did multiple similar artboards  so that it'll easier for the animator to visualize.

ILLUSTRATED STORYBOARD

Fig. 8 First draft illustrated storyboard.

This is the first illustrated storyboard that i did, after getting feedback from Mrr. SHamsul, He did not really like how it turned out since it has inconsistent typeface, too much color scheme and others.

Fig. 9 Second draft illustrated storyboard

The second attempt of illustrated storyboard, Mr actually liked it much better. This time it has better consistency in design wise, Nice Serious typeface, and not much color. Although heh also mentioned that the colors was too vibrant. But other than that its all good.

Fig. 10 Approved Illustrated Storyboard

Third Revision, Changed the color scheme into a more pastel like color, APPROVED!

This is how the final Illustrated storyboard looked like. Moving on is the animators part to take over and animate this whole illustration.

REFLECTION

Overall, working with my group to make an animated infographic about social media's impact on society taught me a lot. Even though we had some teamwork issues, it was still a good experience. It helped us understand the topic better and improved our teamwork and creativity, getting us ready for more projects in school and work. Throughout the project, I noticed that each team member contributed different strengths and viewpoints. Some were great at finding data about social media's effect on society, while others were skilled at making the graphics look impressive. Working together was crucial to blend these varied skills into a coherent and informative finished piece.

It has truly been a fun experience in this group project, meeting new people to work with and share our creativity together. Although there were many obstacles we face, I learn that not all group work are actually easy, you really need to have extra patience and lots of consideration of others too, Teamwork is important in this project, if one person delayed his/her work, it'll be difficult for the next person in line to continue their work hence making the work timeline delayed far behind.
