INSTRUCTION
PROJECT 1 - INSTRUCTABLE INFOGRAPHIC POSTER.
For this assignment, we were tasked with producing a tutorial poster graphic
and a dynamic animated video based on video tutorials detailing the
preparation of a selected recipe from the Pasta Grannies YouTube channel. I
Started by watching some of Pasta Grannie's video while figuring which one to
use. After a period amount of binge watching Pasta Grannies on class, I
decided to go with how to make tiramisu simply because i love tiramisu :)
hehe. and plus it seems like it has shorter steps and less complex than the
others.
Before going down to the sketches, I first list down all the important
information that are needed for the infographic poster later on. Ingredients,
tools, steps and fun facts. Originally, I wrote down everything i heard on the
video, but later on i notice that the poster will be too pact with all the
information and illustrations together, so i then break them down into a more
simplified words.
Treviso Tiramisu - By Mara
Origin of Tiramisu :
There's a controversy about tiramisu between Veneto and Friuli, it's
incredible. She remembers grannies that when their grandchildren were a bit
tired and didn't feel eating anything good, they would make them zabaione, but
not the cooked version. (They beat the yolks with some sugar to give them
energy ) and this recipe was origin for women 'night workers' to give to their
clients when they didn't have anymore energy. So this was the first recipe and
then, after a while they added mascarpone, savoiardi and so on, in fact
putting Sugar and cream as a treat is a firm childhood memory for many italian
and this pudding is the grown up version ).
ingredients : 1. 6 eggs
2. coffee
3. mascarpone cheese
4. 2 table spoons of sambuca
5. lady finger cookies
6. cocoa powder
7. Sugar
8. pinch of salt
in the process of making tiramisu, mara's kitty is patiently waiting :OO
COFFEE 1. Make one strong coffee then leave it too cool a little.
CREAM MAKING :
2. she first separates 6 eggs, adds a pinch of salt to the whites and whisk
them until they're very stiff. (she puts on the refrigerator to keep it stiff)
good quality eggs is important since it'll be raw.
3. adds 500 grams of mascarpone (cheese) - this is the Italian equivalent to
French cream fresh, but it has a rather milder sweeter flavor and has a higher
fat content.
4. adds a non traditional 2 tablespoons of sambuca. (its to take away that
eggy smell or as mara describe smell of "freschin"/ eggy flavor.
5. combine both cold and firm egg white into the cream of egg yolk and folds
them carefully.
LAYERING 1. Mara first spread the cream across the base of her
dish
2. Arrange a single layer of lady fingers biscuit on top evenly. (cut few to
fit exactly on the pan)
3. Carefully and slowly spoons coffee and spread them on the biscuit to absorb
all the coffee. (no excess coffee leaking out of the biscuits)
repeat 3x
4. adds final layer of cream onto the pan.
5. sprinkle dark cocoa powder ( only when you're bout to eat the tiramisu)
6. goes on the fridge until tmrw.
Tiramisu is best serve with prosecco.
Reference
As usual, before doing any sketch, I looked up for some references on google
but mostly pinterest. These are some of the references i took for this
assignment.

Sketch Drafts
Based on the reference, i then picked up 1-2 things that i want to implement
in my infographic poster, basically the idea here is to have more illustration
rather than more words. I made 3 sketches during class, the first one wasn't
the best mainly because I'm still tryna figure out which to put where.
Moving on to the second sketch, I decided to put the information on the top
right since I'll be aiming to have the title on the top left, so that ppl can
read it from top left-right (info) -down where illustrations of tiramisu will
be shown. I love the second design but still it wasn't the best yet since as
you can see, the ingredients are so messy down there and not to mention the
unclear instructions of the procedure.
Lastly to the final and best design. After taking a little break, i can
finally zoom out and sort out each categories in different space of the poster
(if that makes sense) anyways, I then decided to put the title in the middle,
then information on the top left, then in the middle of the poster i wanted to
have a big tiramisu illustration while on the left side showcasing the steps
of the procedure and on the right side mainly showing the ingredients of
tiramisu.
fig. 5 Sketches during class
So after showing it to Mr. Shamsul, he agreed that third sketch is indeed the
best, although he suggested not to put the information there yet since it'll
took up too many space. He also mentioned something about inserting something
unique and not traditional, and so i reconsider inserting some cat graphics or
cat related stuffs in the poster since on the video it was mentioned that the
cat is the most anticipated tiramisu consumer :))

fig. 7 Base color and render layering process
First, i go straight to the tiramisu illustration. I go with the base color
below then layer it up with multiple shadows and highlights to make it seems
semi-realistic.
fig. 8 Tiramisu illustration after rendering
After that i proceed to add more layers for the cream and lady finger biscuit.
Too bad i don't record or document the whole process of making this (too
occupied) I did this on photoshop with brush tool and smudge (too smoothen out
some parts) then add another layer for slight detailing.
Final Outcome
fig. 9 Final Infographic poster
This wasn't actually the only final piece that i made, originally i
wanted to keep the same structure as the sketch that i made on class,
but then when i applied it alongside with the other information i
realize that it wont fit in perfectly. So then after a whole bunch of
template exploration. I finalized with that layout.
Also, i notice i took too much time illustrating the tiramisu and i was
too caught up in rendering the perfect tiramisu.. (could be better tho
its just that i focused to much on the illustration and forgot i have to
do the other instructions and ingredients too. other than that i think i
did well illustrating it.) On the background i also drew a little kitty
and kitten paw, the reason behind it was because in the video, Mara's
kitty loves tiramisu and was waiting for it, so i figure to fill up the
awkward and empty spaces with kitten related illustrations.
PROJECT 2 - ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC
Moving on with project 2, we were to use the assets from Project
1 Instructable Infographic poster into a 60-second motion
graphic.

REFLECTION
Creating an infographic poster and animation about tiramisu was a blast! I
never knew that diving into the world of dessert could be so enjoyable and
educational at the same time. As I embarked on this creative journey, I
discovered a myriad of fun elements and valuable lessons along the way.
Moreover, researching and learning about tiramisu was incredibly fun.
Exploring the history of this beloved Italian dessert and unraveling its
ingredients and preparation methods felt like embarking on a culinary
adventure. Overall, creating an infographic poster and animation
about tiramisu was an enriching experience filled with fun moments and
valuable lessons. It allowed me to indulge my creative side while also
paying attention to the important skills like effective communication and
attention to detail.
